Syllabus Fall 2021
Welcome!! I am looking forward to the learning that will be done in the class! You are enrolled in the American History class this class will help you be excited about how our country works and what role the past actions have had on shaping the U.S. I look forward to teaching and sharing with you what U.S. History is about. When we finish the year I hope that you will have learned and gained the necessary tools that will help you continue learning in U.S. History and any other educational experience you will encounter.
First and very important you will be taking final exams over the subject of American History, this will cover everything so you will need to learn the concepts, not just for one test. There will be a midterm over the information covered through the halfway point. The midterm will be cumulative over the chapters covered to that point.
My class will be like most other classes that you have experienced through high school. ALL SCHOOL RULES WILL APPLY IN THE CLASSROOM. I ask that you treat each other and all adults with the RESPECT, and RESPECT is what you will receive. I ask that you treat any substitute teacher or any other teacher you encounter with the same RESPECT. Do not touch another person’s property without permission, which includes my property as well. Get to class on time. Bring your book, paper, pen, and pencil. I will require a black or blue pen as well as a red ink pen.
Homework needs to be turned in ON TIME or you will be subject to the corporation wide homework policy.
MAKE UP WORK- Students returning to class after an absence are given one calendar day for each day absent plus one to turn in homework that was assigned during the absence. However, if you earn an unexcused absence you will receive a grade of zero on class work or assigned work on the absence. It is your responsibility to get all missed work. In most cases, homework assigned prior to the absence will be expected upon students return to school. Students assigned ISS or out of school suspension will receive credit for assignments turned in upon return to the classroom.
LATE WORK- ALL students are expected to turn in work on time. Teachers may intervene appropriately in order to motivate/encourage students to complete work. If you continually turn in work late, you may be assigned detention. This will be done to help you get your work done.
Tests are worth approximately 50-100 points; assignments are based on the number of questions and the degree of difficulty. The midterm will be worth 100 points. Semester projects will be worth 100-200 points. You will have quizzes periodically which will be worth a variety of points. I will expect you to personally participate in class which you will be given a grade on based on your participation along with a grade on your portfolio. The number of points for these two items will be a total of 150 points, 50 points for participation, 50 points for complete portfolio, and 50 points for journal entries.
